Vet has given her anti-inflammatory medicine, she’s is restricted from excessive activity, and I carry (all 32 pounds of her) up and down the stairs 5 times a day. Still, if I can figure out how to wrap the knee, I think her leg would be more stable, improving both her balance and her comfort.

I have a 2 year very active male blue heeler. He shows signs of what lameness kind of like "walking on eggshells," on days of exercise. Sometimes even days when he hasn’t been. At first I thought it was juvenile arthritis, but he doesn’t show any more stiffness in the mornings unlike our other dog we had who had arthritis. In fact, he seems better in the mornings.

He is very uncomfortable with us touching right behind where the ends of his pads of his front feet are. If you look at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8d/Paw_and_pads.jpg/250px-Paw_and_pads.jpg
Between the hair area of C and E is where is pain appears to be. He shows no discomfort around his joints at all. Sometimes there is minor swelling, but nothing excessive.

He’s the kind of dog who jumps 5 feet in the air all 4 feet off the ground.(I’m not exaggerating here.) I am wondering if he has pulled his tendons, and they haven’t had recovery time.
Oh, and he was on shark cartilage/msm for a month, and I saw no improvement. This is why I am thinking this isn’t arthritis.

I’m thinking he pulled something and he hasn’t had the time to recover. It hasn’t gotten better, so hes going to the vet Monday.

It breaks my heart to see my 12 year old girl in pain due to her arthritis. One regular vet recommended Cosequin DS and another vet prescribed pain medication. Is it safe to use both the pain medication to temporarily reliefs the pain while the Cosequin kicks in which I understand takes some time to see improvements? I found some dog aspirin in petco. Ugh but Idk which is best or if it ok to give her both at once to treat her symptoms.

I have an 18 yo cat. He has serious hyperthyroid, high blood pressure, arthritis, and his vision is bad. His kidneys are OK but on the downward slide, and his liver is iffy.

Every time I go to the vet they say, "Well, he’s not getting better. Let’s adjust his medications, and bring him back in 3 weeks–plus I’d like to add another medication." These visits and tests run me close to 0, and of course they never have a clue what the medications cost. I’ve been through this several times now.

Well, he’s not going to get "better"–he’s 18! What will all these adjustments really achieve, besides costing a fortune and denying me the chance to really deal psychologically with the fact that my cat is slowly dying. But they only write the prescriptions for a few weeks at a time, so I have to go back.

Can I/should I say I don’t want to do any more blood panels, and insist they just renew the prescriptions he’s on for some reasonable period like 6 months?
How can I say this? His quality of life is still OK, I just want to pick a medication level and stick with that until it’s time to put him down, and just monitor things like his weight to see how it’s working.
I didn’t say I wanted to put him down, I said his quality of life is OK now. But they’re talking long-term treatments on a cat who doesn’t have a long-term ahead. His numbers don’t have to be perfect if he’s not going to live long enough for it to matter.

(it is defiantly that knee) and we where going to cortisone her knee. but i dont want to hurt her because i would be jumping like 2"ft. i dont want her to be hurt in the long run. she really hasnt had any training except me riding her (im 13) for the past year and a half. she’s pretty fresh but she’s a gorgeous mover on the flats (thats out of the question for me to show in) i’ve showed her once. we got champion 2nd in the eq (it was a tie but i got second because she was having problems getting her right lead so i had to bend her a lot and we didnt get it the first time but did when we tried right after.) 1st in pleasure (thats judged on her) and 1st in the command, they saw we weren’t getting the right lead so they asked us to get the WRONG lead to the right so i was all excited b.c we won that class and thats my hard one. lol im telling storys sorry. but do you think it’s worth it to cortisone her i dont want her to be hurt in the long run. a vet who specialize in lamness is gona do xrays but what do you think? thanks (and thanks for reading all this lol)

I was thinking about buying this for my younger guy too, but I wasn’t sure if this would be right for him. The smartflex ultra has got a lot more glucosamine and other joint support supplements, but no devil’s claw. If his arthritis is so bad that he isn’t rideable, and it’s causing ligaments to swell what’s more important, joint mobility or pain relief? My vet said it was very possible he already had bone on bone in the joints, that would mean glucosamine wouldn’t help very much, wouldn’t it?
