Chronic Pain need help?

I have been seeing my doctor for just about 1 year for chronic pain. I have morning stiffness, headaches, joint swelling/stiffness, pain in joints, shoulder pain, back pain including lower back, my bones crack all day like I am just a skeleton. I concider myself somewhat healthy eat well have a 1 year old that I play with so I get lots of exercise.
My proplem is this:
There is no diagnosis! Doc says that I have ANA Blood but no R factor. I have had MRIs and Xrays done both showing arthritis in my joints, back, and tailbone. I live in pain all day everyday and tylonal and other otc dont work. I can’t take anti inflammatories because there really mess up my stomach. I was put on Ultram/tremadol for about 6 months. I told the doctor 3 times that they werent working that great and she said that is the only thing she can give me at this time since the rhuematoidalogist would be seeing me soon. Which by the way took 4 months to get into thuematoid office due to medical coverage. Well, I seen the rhuematoidalogist and he says that there isnt anything that he sees to shed any light on what is wrong with me. That was 2 months ago. Since then I started to take way to many ultram I was taking about 10-12 a day. I said to myself that that was rediculus so I talked to my doctor and sooo she puts me on Zannaflex, zoloft, and tylanol arthritis.
The zannaflex was one of the first meds she tried me on when I first started to see her. They didn’t work then nor do they help now. I am not really depressed so I don’t know why she puts me on zoloft. And I came into her office taking tylanol for my pain with no relief……I also have to say that before I seen her I was getting Vicodin from a friend. know that it is ilegal to take someone elses meds but with no insurance a new baby and in so much pain what does one do. I took 2-3 at the most a day with excellent relief. I never once abused them I never got "high" off from then. I told my doctor that I had been using them since I believe that you should tell your doc everything be upfront and honest. She looked at me like I was a criminal. And said "well, they probably worked to good and you will not get them here" So here I am over a year later with no answers to my condition being treated for depression and muscle pain with no relief. I have been nothing but honest with her. If I was out to get "Drugs" I would have been out of her office a long time ago . I just want help and don’t know what to do I feel she doesnt even try to listen to me….Oh she also checked me for Hepititis C 4 times because I am sleeved out with tattoos. And one more thing that she told me once when she first put me on Zannaflex I told her that I couldnt take a med that would make me tired because at that time my daughter was 6 months old and starting to pull up on everything….She looked at me and asks "Well do you have a Playpen?"

So, I am wondering what you all think I should do? I want a second opionion but I have no insurance and this doctor is covered through the state. But I have had so much lab work done xrays MRIs I just don’t want to go through it all over again. I am just lost on what I should do……

Sorry to write a misspelled book but I wanted to share all the details
the nurse did say something about Fybromyalgia yesterday when I talked with her….Also, My great grandma had Rhuematoid artritis as well as my great aunt…..I have all the signs and syptoms just my blood work says differant. Even the doctor thinks it is the on set of RA. I have had terrible problems with my wrist since I was around 12 years old just flared up in high geer since I gave birth..

Does this sound like a case of Juvenile Arthritis?

For the past couple months, I’ve experienced increasingly painful days. My knees swell up after exercise, and it hurts to walk up and down stairs even if I hadn’t yet ran around. My wrists, elbows, and shoulders occasionally become warmish feeling, and range from irritating to holding-painful. My big toe is actually one of the worse joints affected- it hurts to move it sometimes, but it hurts to just sit around with it, too.

I’m fourteen, and I have a friend that has Juvenile Arthritis.

Is there a chance that I have it, or am I just paranoid?

Do Phiten products work?

This is the Phiten blurb:

Phiten® Titanium products promote pain relief and performance enhancement. Titanium emits energy that is effective in controlling the flow of bioelectric current. When this current is stabilized, the muscles relax and blood circulation increases, allowing for easier movement and pain relief. All Phiten® products help relieve pain in muscles and joints by improving the alignment of ions, especially at the body’s crucial motor points. Our product is also effective in the temporary relief of pain from bursitis, sciatica, tendonitis, certain types of arthritis and numberous other conditions.

Does it really work?

I am only 25, but have suffered from Psoriatic Arthritis that was debilitating. In fact, my Rheumotologist advised me not to exercise because of the stress on my joints. Now that I am on a new medication and feeling amazing I want to get on track and lose some weight. I have a two year old and thought a treadmill or stationary bike would be great. However, what about those things like the ab lounge? Do they really work? I don’t want to work out with weights because i would be doing this alone. What would be my best bet for shedding some stomach flab and getting into shape?

Is anyone curently being treated with feldene?

I have psoriatic arthritis..have had it for over 30 years….the symptoms have been mild enough for hot showers, aspirin, and using the involved joints dispite swelling and pain when they flare but recently my M.D. has prescribed feldene-to take when needed for joint pain.

I was on it for a short period of time when it first came on the market, but my then physician had reservations and I’ve been able to avoid prescription meds for it until now….my lower back and both ankles/knees complain too much at this point and the aspirin only gives partial relief….he tells me it’s almost as safe as aspirin…I’m wondering if anyone else is using it and how successful the pain relief/management has been with it…thanx….
so far I tolerate feldene well….it seems to inhance the diuretic I take for my BP lol so I hafta co-ordinate the two…the first time I used it (when it first came out) it kicked in within 24 hrs and the relief was complete…now it takes about 3 days before I notice a difference, but then all major joints are now involved, not just one like before…..was wondering if anyone has noticed this….and has had any of the side effects….thanx for all replies-arthritis stinks, huh……

Re: My question:
I know this may sound like a simple question, but the way of constructing the discussion with her is difficult – i don’t want to sound helpless, or that i am disabled in some way and thus unable to perform my duties on the job…. What should i say… er – exactly?

I was thinking of something like "request due to medical reasons", but geez that sounds severe!

Background:
I recently discovered i have arthritis (i’m 26/ F). Before this was clearly so, i started working night shift, in a job where i do a lot of typing (and yes, i’m at work now).

Symptomatic issues:
If i am up during the day i have no problems with my hands, but from about 8pm onwards my hands swell up and all my joints (but particuarly my fingers, elbows and hips) become extremely painful and I have difficulty moving them.

Treatment:
Acupuncture works wonders for me, but recently i have been unable to afford treatment. I’m now taking Voltaren (which is okay) and using the Voltaren gel.
The big thing is that i am/ used to be one of the top performers and now my productivity has dropped significantly. It’s so frustrating.

Starting when I was about 12 years old, I have occasionally had bouts with a strange, unidentified illness. It starts with a little bit of stiffness in the mornings, and progresses over a period of days until the joints are VERY swollen and aching in the mornings, along with a raised, reddish colored rash over each of the affected joints. The raised welts fade down as the day progresses, but the redness and itchiness over the joints remains, along with stiffness and joint pain. Each morning, the joint pain, stiffness, and rash over the joints is worse than the day before.
It usually starts with the knuckles and wrists of both hands, and progresses to include the elbows, ankles, toes, knees, and even the jaw. Each time the illness has presented, I have seen a doctor who has been completely mystified. I am usually prescribed an anti-inflammatory medicine of some variety to alleviate the symptoms. Once I take a few doses, all symptoms disappear. After the first onset, the length of time between symptoms has been longer each time. As a teenager, it would be a few months apart, and as I got older, more and more years pass between symptoms appearing. The only symptoms are the joint pain and raised welts over the joints – no fever or pain anywhere else.

Due to the fact that the symptoms are the worst when I first wake up and fade some during the day, along with the fact that all symptoms disappear once I take any medications to alleviate the pain and itching, no one has been able to diagnose it. When there are no symptoms, doctors can’t find a thing wrong with me. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

(I am familiar with lupus, lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, etc. Doctors have all told me that my symptoms are atypical for those diseases.)
A point of clarification – I haven’t had a flare up with this in years, so I’m not looking for a way to treat it. I just want to know what it could be, or if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms. A number of doctors and specialists have told me they’ve never seen anything like it.

Weaning my almost 1 year old?

Read this whole thing before you get judgmental about weaning.

I have psoriatic arthritis, a genetic autoimmune disease which attacks all of my joints. I feel like I’m 90 sometimes even though I am just 24. I am breastfeeding my son who will be 11 months old on Monday. I can take one of my arthritis medications while I am breastfeeding, but not the other. This is my problem.

I can take my Enbrel, but it is an autoimmune suppressant, which means I can’t take it if I get sick because it could cause a serious infection and possibly kill me. I cannot take my celebrex, which is an NSAID pain reliever which is what I used to take for my achy days and every day when I was sick so I wasn’t in pain. Celebrex passes into the breast milk and it isn’t good for babies and their livers.

I haven’t taken celebrex since I found out I was pregnant almost 2 years ago now. My fingers just don’t work any more (you wouldn’t believe me if I told you how long it took me to type this). When I get sick, I can’t take anything for the pain except ibuprofen in moderation and that doesn’t cut it. My son is walking now and I can’t run around with him very much even when I can take my enbrel because I just get so achy during this time of year. I want to breastfeed till about one year, but I need to wean by then because my son deserves a healthy (relatively) mommy who can play with him and run with him. I am a stay at home mom and he spends most of his time just me so it isn’t like he gets to run around and play at daycare or anything. I’m all he has. I need useful advice on weaning him.

He does take a sippy cup of water (or juice at grandma’s house) during meal times, but he won’t take a bottle. I’ve tried a couple different kinds of formula as well as breast milk and he doesn’t seem to like it. I don’t mind weaning him from the breast to the bottle if that is what it takes. We can work on that habit after I’m feeling better. He eats lots of solids, all three meals and sometimes a snack or two. He does take a pacifier. He doesn’t nurse to sleep. He nurses at bed time and then takes the pacifier and rocks to sleep.

Please give me some advice on weaning him and don’t tell me how magical breast milk is and how a child should self wean and how I should go through all the pain in the world to give my son the mystical powers of breast milk. Yeah, studies suggest that breastfed babies are smarter and healthier and have better eye sight, but walk into a classroom in any high school and point out the kids that were breastfed and which weren’t. I bet you can’t do it because the numbers in favor of breastfeeding are so slight and skewed by family income level (which is a more accurate predictor of future success unfortunately). I was breastfed and have a serious medical condition, but my best friend was formula fed and is in perfect health. Go figure. Don’t lecture me on breastfeeding please. I know the facts and I made my choice. Thank you.
