I fear that i may end up in a wheelchair because i’ve picked up various injuries in my knees. Plus I have arthritis in my thigh from a broken leg at age 6. Not only that but i have slight scoliosis and i dont know if this is the reason but my hips hurt and my back… everything is painful now. I’ also got a shoulder damage 4 months ago and it still hurts and doesn’t stop hurting.
i’m 28 and male.

I have rheumatoid arthritis, am 26 years old and since moving to Denver have NEVER had so much pain with it! Sure there have been times my whole body would flare up and it wouldn’t be pleasant – but I am noticing more localized pain – specifically the BACK of my knees, my hips, and my shoulders – as well of course as toes and fingers. Why would it be so localized like this and what can I do?
Yes, I am overweight, but have been working on it! This month lost 16 lbs! YAY ME! I also sit long hours for work… but no more than I was before I moved here and am still doing my yoga, belly dancing and walking.

So I went to the doctor a few days ago, because I have been having horrible lower back pains, and i am currently abroad, so my host mom thought it might be my kidneys or my pilondial cyst, but the doctor said it was my lower back and that was all.
I have had hip pains in my right hip since I was a child, but we never had it checked out, it was suggested maybe i had juvenile arthritis and that was what we accepted and never got it looked at. But for the past two weeks I have had horrible lower back pain, and I get horrible hip pains once at least every three weeks.
At the moment we are doing nothing about it, and I am considering going home to get everything checked out, even to just find that I have just arthritis in my hips, I am just concerned it could be nerve damage I have had for years.
If I sit for long periods of time, its miserable, and I cant walk for more then fifteen minutes comfortabley. I think when i was in middle school they said i had 5° scoliosis but that wasnt a big deal and I have a arch in my back because i have a big butt so laying on my back with out having my knees bent is extremely uncomfortable and i cant bench press with out my feet on the seat.
so any suggestions?

I have been struggling with arthritis of hips and wondering if anyone else has problems like this and if anything works for them such as a particular excercize, etc. My condition is very sensitive to weight, although I am not overweight by any measure, every lb. makes a huge difference. I am trying to find ways to work out and get my heart rate up in addition to biking. Any ideas? Swimming is so boring. Also, I am seeking a physician who specializes in such problems in Minneapolis area.

I’m a 55 year old female and have had a little arthritis since in my 20′s. It started in my fingers and seemed to be somewhere different every year. Now is the worse it’s ever been. About six months ago it started getting bad in my hips then my shoulders. Now it’s in my left shoulder only and is exxxxxxxtreemely painful. I went to the Dr. and he gave me pain pills and they didn’t help. Now I’m on an anti-inflammitory and it doesn’t seem to help either. Can anyone tell me how I can get a little relief until I go see the RA in Oct.?

Re: My question:
I know this may sound like a simple question, but the way of constructing the discussion with her is difficult – i don’t want to sound helpless, or that i am disabled in some way and thus unable to perform my duties on the job…. What should i say… er – exactly?
I was thinking of something like "request due to medical reasons", but geez that sounds severe!
Background:
I recently discovered i have arthritis (i’m 26/ F). Before this was clearly so, i started working night shift, in a job where i do a lot of typing (and yes, i’m at work now).
Symptomatic issues:
If i am up during the day i have no problems with my hands, but from about 8pm onwards my hands swell up and all my joints (but particuarly my fingers, elbows and hips) become extremely painful and I have difficulty moving them.
Treatment:
Acupuncture works wonders for me, but recently i have been unable to afford treatment. I’m now taking Voltaren (which is okay) and using the Voltaren gel.
The big thing is that i am/ used to be one of the top performers and now my productivity has dropped significantly. It’s so frustrating.
