A question about Arthritis ?

My mom has been complaining of having bouts of arthritis, and she has been taking 1000mg of Glucosamine daily but she still feels that it is not enough. She keeps complaining about the pain in the entire body.
She walks daily for 5-10 minutes ( slow walks).

Her back aches and she has to take Panadol once or twicea and apply Ammeltz Yoko Yoko (a Menthol and a Eucalyptus balm) on her knees everyday to alleviate the pain, even if its temporary relief.
Incidently, 4 years ago she was knocked down by a motorcycle and ever since, she has always got pain in the shin bone. But the doctor’s X/ray reveal there is no fracture whatsoever.
Her side of the family ( mother, grandmother) all suffer from arthritis at old age.
She has diabetes and High blood pressure as well.

What are some of the things or remedies that can cure the Arthritis condition and make the pain go away ?

I’m currently eating Glucosamine pill but am considering to apply Glucosamine cream to affected areas such as knees and fingers as an additional treatment to improve my joints. But does it really works? Any first-hand experiences? Please share with me.

I’ve got an older gelding that I’ve got on Smartflex senior, and it’s been great for him. It’s got 7000 mg of glucosamine, and some devil’s claw to help with inflamation.

I was thinking about buying this for my younger guy too, but I wasn’t sure if this would be right for him. The smartflex ultra has got a lot more glucosamine and other joint support supplements, but no devil’s claw. If his arthritis is so bad that he isn’t rideable, and it’s causing ligaments to swell what’s more important, joint mobility or pain relief? My vet said it was very possible he already had bone on bone in the joints, that would mean glucosamine wouldn’t help very much, wouldn’t it?

My 11 year old dog has arthritis in his back left knee. He has trouble walking, and now he can barely get up. He has been having trouble since about 3 months ago when he junmped out of the car. We took him to the vet, who said he either blewout his knee or has arthritis. He gave him some pain pills, which worked at first, and we got him some glucosamine, which also helped. But recently he is doing much worse. Please help Rocky and me by giving me some suggestions to help him. It’s so hard to watch him in so much pain and not be able to help at all.

Treatment for mild dog arthritis?

After ruling out other possible problems with extensive blood work and a physical, my vet thinks that the most likely cause for by 9-yr-old Boston Terrier’s irritability and loss of interest in play is mild inflammation of his joints. She prescribed a few ml of a drug called Metacam, which she described as being "like Motrin for dogs." The drug has helped him a lot, but it’s for a tiny bottle (30 day supply). I’m wondering if there is a less expensive, effective treatement, or a source for vet drugs that’s not so prohibitive. (I’m already giving him glucosamine and chondroitin supplements)

treatment for canine arthritis?

My 4 yr old Golden has arthritis in his lower back. We suspect it has started about a year ago. His only symptoms was he always sits or lays. When he walks, runs, plays etc there are no symptoms except when he is stationary….he usually does not stand very long…either sits or lays. XRays show alot of arthritis in his lower back. No reason for this at such a young age. He tested negative for lyme. We are looking for good holistic treatment plans…no stronge pills. I was looking at SynFlex (liquid glucosamine). Has anyone used this? Any other suggestions?

Meloxicam with glucosamine?

I have been taking 15 mg of Meloxicam a day for psoriatic arthritis. It helps a lot but I still have pain and stiffness in my hands so I have started taking glucosamine (3X 500 mg a day). Can these drugs be taken together? Any contraindications?

How to treat osteoarthritis?

Painkillers (?), if osteoarthritis is in the hips/knees, is total hip or knee replacement needed?
What other alternative methods are available to treat this? I’ve heard of glucosamine sulphate, is it any good?

Kidney failure and arthritis medication?

My dog has been experiencing kidney failure for approximately a month and a half. While he’s been handling that fairly well, he’s seemed to develop arthritis or some sort of pain in one of his front arms, which makes it difficult to walk. The vet suggested limited amounts of Metacam, despite being potentially harmful to the Kidneys. I know in taking it, it will likely decrease his lifespan, but I don’t think he should live in this sort of pain. Until the pain issues arose, my dog still ate plenty, didn’t mind walks, and barked as much as he always did. Is the Metacam likely to drastically reduce his lifespan, or would it only slow him down a little? Is there anything else that could work in this situation, he needs some sort of moderately rapid pain relief.

And yes I know about Glucosamine, but the vet said it would take a long time so see any sort of reaction to that, and I’m not sure I want my dog to suffer that long for something we aren’t sure will work.
