I have rheumatoid arthritis, am 26 years old and since moving to Denver have NEVER had so much pain with it! Sure there have been times my whole body would flare up and it wouldn’t be pleasant – but I am noticing more localized pain – specifically the BACK of my knees, my hips, and my shoulders – as well of course as toes and fingers. Why would it be so localized like this and what can I do?

Yes, I am overweight, but have been working on it! This month lost 16 lbs! YAY ME! I also sit long hours for work… but no more than I was before I moved here and am still doing my yoga, belly dancing and walking.

will JRA keep me from joining the navy?

I’m looking to join the navy, or possibly enrolling in officer candidacy school after i finish my bachelors degree next year. I was diagnosed with non flare Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when i was 7, but it has never effected me to the point where i was unable to complete any tasks, nor was i put on any medications for it. I know that some conditions will keep me from being able to get into the Navy… will this be a problem since it’s on my medical record that i have this medical condition?

Starting when I was about 12 years old, I have occasionally had bouts with a strange, unidentified illness. It starts with a little bit of stiffness in the mornings, and progresses over a period of days until the joints are VERY swollen and aching in the mornings, along with a raised, reddish colored rash over each of the affected joints. The raised welts fade down as the day progresses, but the redness and itchiness over the joints remains, along with stiffness and joint pain. Each morning, the joint pain, stiffness, and rash over the joints is worse than the day before.
It usually starts with the knuckles and wrists of both hands, and progresses to include the elbows, ankles, toes, knees, and even the jaw. Each time the illness has presented, I have seen a doctor who has been completely mystified. I am usually prescribed an anti-inflammatory medicine of some variety to alleviate the symptoms. Once I take a few doses, all symptoms disappear. After the first onset, the length of time between symptoms has been longer each time. As a teenager, it would be a few months apart, and as I got older, more and more years pass between symptoms appearing. The only symptoms are the joint pain and raised welts over the joints – no fever or pain anywhere else.

Due to the fact that the symptoms are the worst when I first wake up and fade some during the day, along with the fact that all symptoms disappear once I take any medications to alleviate the pain and itching, no one has been able to diagnose it. When there are no symptoms, doctors can’t find a thing wrong with me. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

(I am familiar with lupus, lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, etc. Doctors have all told me that my symptoms are atypical for those diseases.)
A point of clarification – I haven’t had a flare up with this in years, so I’m not looking for a way to treat it. I just want to know what it could be, or if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms. A number of doctors and specialists have told me they’ve never seen anything like it.

Recently I have had problems in the groin area with the left side of my scrotum swelling up.
Later I had a flare up of my Psoriatic Arthritis / Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Pain in my back (tail bone) up to about my waist, at night in bed my ribs and upper back ache and keep me from sleep.

I developed psoriasis as a teenager and then in my twenties I developed psoriatic arthritis, 4 of my toes bent and my ankle swollen up. Pain in my neck, between shoulder blades, lower back and hips. Ankylosing Spondylitis in my neck and lower back.

I was referred to a urologist who said I had a hernia or rupture as I am having pain in my lower abs, down the side of my groin and the swelling in the scrotum
when he examined me he could not find a hernia, I have had an ultra sound followed by an MRI scan with the same results, only thing found was fluid in my hip joint (due to the arthritis)

so is it possible that this current problem with my groin is down to Psoriatic Arthritis / Ankylosing S

how long to arthritis flare ups usually last?

I am 27 and have had arthritis for 3 years. but the symptoms have been mainly mild – I had my first real serious flare up yesterday (I cant move my wrist or my thumb at all and it is extremely painful)…I have a four month old daughter and can barely even lift her – feeding her and changing her is excruciating. And there is little I can take in terms of pain meds for relief because I am breastfeeding. I am wondering how long this will last?? I know it is variable, but a general idea would really help me.
Thanks.

I’ve had RA since birth, Its been affecting my eyes lately (Uveitis) as of now its under control but I’m on methotrexate, celebrex, humira. We really want to start a family…but when I tried to get off my meds I got a flare up in my eye…does anyone have any alterior suggestions on how to keep RA under control?

I was born with JRA, and i went into medical remission (which is really good) sometime in 4th grade, I have had four quiet years, but now, i have a flare up. Originally, i had arthiritis only in my left wrist and pointer finger, but the flare up came in my left ankle, and now possibly both my knees. It started in the mid-to-end of August, and now it is the 25 of November. Is this to long for a flare up?
