my dad has knee arthritis?
He is 80. The doctor said just take Tylenol, which only works for a bit. The heat pads work for a bit too. I like home remedies, so I read about the concoction of liquid pectin and grape juice. My mom says he is on Lipitor, and cannot take grape juice. When I investigated this, I saw Grapefruit juice, not grape juice. Cannot be the same interaction, can it? He is in alot of pain. No shot either, the doctor doesn’t want that.

Even at 80 if in fair health your father can get corticosteroid injections which will help alleviate a lot of knee pain from arthritis. I’d consult an orthopedic surgeon (they’re the only ones qualified to do injections). For some knee arthritis a new substance that is long acting called Synvisc is available. I know lots of 80+ year olds getting knee and hip replacements these days. I’m sure there is more than tylenol to help your father.
Get a better doctor, Tylenol has to be the most useless substance known to man. Grapefruit juice the one to watch with Lipitor, but research everything you may try. Unfortunately at 80 there is not a lot that anyone could do. If he is in otherwise good health try starting a regiment of joint supplement(s). If nothing else get him better pain killers.
Tylenol or acetaminophen is indicated as treatment for osteoarthritis. In a man your fathers age he should not exceed 2grams or 2000mg per day. If he is getting no relief he may benefit from a small dose narcotic pain reliever. He should follow up with his medical provider…pain is very under treated, especially in the elderly.
