Please help me find out the causes of osteoarthritis that happened to my brother. How can it occur so early, I am surprised, when generally it is associated with old age? My brother is in good shape and keeps fit.

Can cartilage grow again? Over how many years? I know the growth is very slow.

I am asking on behalf of my mother who has had osteoarthritis in her hands for over thirty years (thumb joint area) and has tried many and varied forms of treatment including most recently a hydro cortisone injection and all to no avail.
I was wondering if there is anyone who has or who knows of anyone with a similar condition who has found anything which has produced positive results. She is in Scotland so perhaps certain treatments may not be accessible although perhaps online purchasing can be enquired into.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Anyone have solutions for shallow hip sockets and resulting osteoarthritis of hips?

I have been struggling with arthritis of hips and wondering if anyone else has problems like this and if anything works for them such as a particular excercize, etc. My condition is very sensitive to weight, although I am not overweight by any measure, every lb. makes a huge difference. I am trying to find ways to work out and get my heart rate up in addition to biking. Any ideas? Swimming is so boring. Also, I am seeking a physician who specializes in such problems in Minneapolis area.

This guy is an 18m/o Border Collie, he came to me 3 weeks ago as a shelter pull. He was a stray with no known history, he had pneumonia, was 15lbs under weight and not eating, he was unable to sit and showed L Rear hip/leg swelling and pain to the touch for the first 3 days, 3 weeks later he is able to sit, run and jump on furniture comfortably. He was officially diagnosed with early stage Osteoarthritis and Osteosclerosis today. So far, I have been treating it with a good protein rich non-grain/corn diet, joint supplements (starting today), regular informal massages and a healthy weight maintenance program. My ideas so far for causes are; early prolonged nourishment, genetic/congenital, hindered circulation or auto-immune. Any details would be greatly appreciated.

I was in a car accident July 2005, and did a lot of damage to my knee. I have permanent patellar and meniscal tendonitis, and my meniscis is torn, but not enough for surgery. I’m in constant pain, and my doctor told me about a year ago that I would most likely end up with arthiritis in 10 – 20 years. At first I thought it wasn’t right that he was assuming this is how it would end, but I’m slowly having more and more symptoms of osteoarthiritis. I’m only 19, and I’d rather not have this. Is there any way I can relieve this symptoms, and maybe push it off?
-weakness in the knee -’creaking’ when bending -pain when held in one position for too long -pain from walking -can’t run -pain when weather changes

Does anyone know anything about this? What causes it or what a person can do to feel better? What about solutions for pain?

I’ve taken Prednisone & Methotrexate etc. in the past. Nothing has helped. I can’t continue working. Having A LOT of problems at home doing things. My husband does a lot for me. My hands are stiff, don’t bend & hurt. HELP!
