Do chiropractors cure arthritis or degenerated discs? Or do they make it worse? What about osteoperosis?
I’ve been to see chiropractors for my back and neck and the last one, I constantly had a dull ache. It was better than the severe pain, but I just have to wonder. And I spoke to someone else being treated by him who talked about he could be rough. Then after the last car accident I had that made matters worse, I was too scared to go.
Doesn’t the manipulation make the joints rub together and hurt the attached nerves and muscles more? And wouldn’t they be breaking bones in osteoperosis?
If not, how do they keep their treatments from making these conditions worse?

I’m a female chiropractor, no the joints don’t rub together, It is only gas release from vertebra or joints, there is no damage that occurs from adjustments. In patients with osteoporosis a different lighter technique is used. The purpose of the treatment is to take pressure off the nerve which will reduce the symptoms. I would suggest in your case that you see a female chiropractor, the problem is not going to go away on its own. Having seen patients with similar history and symptoms as yours its fair to say the problem will only get worse if left untreated. I hope you call a local female chiropractor today.
I have an arthritis that’s not a wear-and-tear arthritis; it’s an auto-immune disease where my spine fuses together. I can’t go see a chiropractor because he could break my back.
I used to see a chiro a long time ago, about another back problem, and I found that it helped for a few days, and then the pain would come back. What I found worked better for me was massage (by a registered massage therapist), physio, and yoga. However, I have a friend who says that chiro works better for her than anything. She says she only needs to go every three months or so. I think the trick is to find what works best for you.
Good luck!
Chiropractors do not cure. They are a part of a spinal injury management plan. They perform spinal adjustments to relieve pain or discomfort from pinched nerves or soft tissue trauma. I have been regularly visiting chiropractors for 21 years. I have a herniated disc that causes me pain through squeezing or crushing nerves in my spinal column. The wear on the disc allows the vertebra either side of it to become disjointed under certain stress conditions. This is when I visit the chirpractor to have my spine re-adjusted and put back into joint. If I was to follow the directions of my GP (doctor) I would spend weeks in bed on analgesics, anti-inflammatories and other mind and body numbing drugs which I am not ready to become addicted to, just yet. I find the chiropractic adjustments do help. My injury, like all spinal injuries, is degenerative. It will not get better. But I live close to a normal, pain free life.
I’m kinda in the same neighborhood as Chris. I blew two discs in my neck and it pinched the nerve going down my left arm. Very painful. I wound up having two epidurals which helped a lot, and I’ve been taking Relafen and Lyrica which I assume have been helping, and I’ve also been "recovering" for six months which I also assume has helped. But just short of surgery I decided to try a chiropractor. He’s a really nice guy, and he seems to think he can help me, so I’ve been seeing him for about two months. I can’t say that he has helped, but he hasn’t hurt. I’m going on the theory that if I stay in it for the long term my spine will eventually be "adjusted" back to it’s normal state.
