Glucosamine and condroitn sulphate are to help rebuild cartilage they are not pain medications. Over time they will help improve mobility but you may want to address this with your vet. There are some really good anti-inflammatory medications now for dogs. You may have to have some screening blood work done before starting them and you may be able to reduce the amount or discontinue them after your pet improves from being on the supplements. There are also some healthier alternatives like MSM. Discuss it with your vet or find a holistic vet to talk to about natural remedy’s.

If you think she has arthritis, I’d suggest you bring her to the Vet 1st & get her joints examined. Glucosamine contributes to the cushioning nature of the joints. It will not improve her joints but will just maintain them. It won’t bring down the pain either but it’ll be good for her.
You can get human Glucosamine from pharmacies because they are cheaper & the milligram content is higher than the ones made for dogs. I have been giving my GRs the human Glucosamine for more than 3 years already. They don’t have bad hips or joints. I just maintain them with it because they’re heavy dogs & they run & jump alot.
You could also get Synoquin from the Vet. It is very good & very expenssive. That one will reduce the pain if your dog happens to have any later but pain killers work better. Some Vets won’t give pain killers to those who have joint pains because they don’t want the dog to start jumping around when the leg hasn’t cured yet. But I think the human Glucosamine will do just fine. Be sure to give her 1 pill everyday. No running, no jumping, no rough games but walk. Walking helps a lot but let her walk at her own speed. If you can find a place where there is a pool or even a lake then let her swim. That way she won’t put any pressure on her joints. Hope this helped.
Start with the Glucosamine and see if that is enough. I have had some very impressive results with my foster dogs. Costco sell a big bottle of Glucosamine tablets for dogs usually back in the pet food section
There are a lot of really great supplements (not medications) with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, Perna canaliculus, vitamin C and more. You can get them in the form of treats too, so they are easy for your dog to take. I did research for my website on the supplements that work the best for dogs with joint pain and arthritis and I have them all listed on this page if you want to check it out;

Her problem may not be arthritis. Vet check time.
Glucosamine combo supplements don’t relieve pain.
May want to try Cetyl-M. Look it up on the www. Have known dogs it has helped…though it is not a "pain killer".
Next step would be the vet for "harsher" meds…but do discuss their "side effects".
